National anthem singer deranged lyrics in World Series opener

Houston (AP) — Grammy-nominated singer Eric Burton I lost track of the lyrics in the middle of “The Star-Spangled Banner” before friday night World Series opener between Houston and Philadelphia.

As players and staff lined the field for the traditional pre-game ceremony and a giant American flag was unfurled in the outfield, the Black Pumas band leader ran off the track in the second line. He sang:

He correctly continued: “Who’s the broad stripe and the bright star that survived the perilous battle?” At the end of the twilight we returned to what we proudly welcomed.

Burton then correctly picked up, “And the red glare of the rocket, the bomb explodes in the air,” and finished successfully.

Burton performed in a televised concert at President Joe Biden’s inauguration last year.
