Police in New Jersey caught a one-month-old baby after a man threw a child from a balcony on the second floor of the building, officials said Saturday.
According to Jersey City Mayor Stephen Flop, the unidentified newborn was not physically harmed.
In an Instagram post, Fulop thanked police officer Eduardo Matute and published a photo of him holding a baby.
The incident began Saturday morning in Jersey City, where an unidentified man was reported to be “hanging” a newborn on the balcony, a Jersey City spokeswoman. Told to NJ Advance Media..
Officers negotiated with the man and set boundaries, Mr. Flop said. The man was arrested after throwing the baby, according to NJ Advance Media reports.
The charges he was facing were not immediately clear. No other details about the incident were available.
“We commend the JCPD and all police officers involved in their heroic actions and in drawing safe conclusions about this dangerous situation,” the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
