Cambridge Bay, Nunavut — A man died after a helicopter landed near a mine in western Nunavut on Tuesday.

The Agnico Eagle Mine, which operates the Hope Bay Gold Mine, says the man was a contract employee working 13 kilometers from the site.

The mine, about 125 kilometers southwest of Cambridge Bay, shut down 24 hours after death.

Agnico Eagle states that it will provide counseling and support to its employees.

The RCMP said it received a phone call at dinner on Tuesday that a helicopter had rolled and killed a worker.

They say they are investigating with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada and the Chief Coroner office.
