One person killed in Czech cable car accident

A rescue service spokesman said one person died after the Czech cable car cabin was disconnected from the cable on Sunday in the northern part of the country, and the others were rescued from another cabin.

The cable car up to the 1,000 meter (3,300 ft) level on Mount Ještěd uses two cabins, each operated by staff members.

“One cabin collapsed on the way down, and unfortunately one was injured,” spokesman Michael Georgiav told Czech Television.

“Fortunately, the other cabin stayed in its normal location and about 15 people were evacuated. There were no injuries and only a psychological shock,” he said.
