One person killed in shooting at Omaha Mall, which runs shoppers


Omaha, Nebraska (AP) — A shooting at a shopping center in Nebraska killed one and injured another as a horrifying shopper rushed to a hideout.

Authorities believe that the shooting at Westroads Mall in Omaha was an isolated incident, not a random attack.

According to Omaha police lieutenant Neil Bonatch, police determined that the suspect had fled the scene after searching the mall.Officers first gave “Clear All” around 1 pm — about an hour after multiple shots were fired, Omaha World-Herald Report.

According to Bonatch, a man was shot dead and a woman was injured in the leg.

According to a World Herald reporter who was in the food court at the time of the shooting, the shooting caused a panic when people fled the main section of the mall.

“It was shocking,” said Alyha Wills, who was at Forever 21 with her sister when other shoppers asked if she heard a gunshot.

Then she ran away and said, “I was able to hear it. It was close.”

Authorities did not immediately release additional details about the suspect or the trigger for the shooting.

This was second reported in a little over a month shoot at Westroads Mall. Omaha Police Officer Jeffrey Witz Truck He was shot four times by a 21-year-old man accused of shoplifting T-shirts by JC Penny on March 12. The Witz truck survived.
