Pakistan approves Czech model convicted of drug case

Lahore, Pakistan (AP) —A Czech model sentenced to eight years in prison for attempting to smuggle heroin from Pakistan into the Arab Emirates will be released next week after being acquitted by the Court of Appeals. The lawyer said on Friday.

Earlier this week, Teresa Fruskova was acquitted by an appeals court in a city east of Lahore, the capital of Punjab, according to lawyers.

Her lawyer, Saiful Malook, said Hluskova, now 24, will be released early next week after the paperwork is complete.

She was arrested in January 2018 in possession of 8.5 kilograms (19 pounds) of heroin at Lahore Airport, which was heading to Ireland via the UAE. Her decision also included a $ 800 fine.

Fruskova, who had come to Pakistan as a model at the time of her arrest and during the trial, complained that she was innocent and that someone else was packing the drug.

Pakistani authorities regularly arrest both Pakistanis and foreigners for drug smuggling.
