São Paulo (AP) — The family of Brazilian football great Pele has been gathering at Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo since the end of November, where the 82-year-old global icon is located.
Doctors said earlier this week that Pele’s cancer had progressed, adding that the three-time World Cup winner was receiving “advanced care” linked to “dysfunction of the kidneys and heart.” No statements from other hospitals have been released.
Edson Cholbi Nascimento, one of Pele’s sons, known as Edinho, arrived on Saturday.He gave a press conference and denied visiting his hospitalized father. Nyo said at the time that only a doctor could help his father.
“He (Edson) is here,” Kelly Nascimento, one of Pele’s daughters, posted on Instagram in a photo of herself sitting next to Edinho and her two children at the hospital. take me out of here
Hours later, former Santos goalkeeper Edinho posted a photo of him holding his father’s hand.
“Father…my power is yours,” said Pele’s son.
Edson Arantes de Nascimento, known worldwide as Pele, had a colon tumor removed in September 2021. Neither his family nor the hospital have said if the disease has spread to other organs.
Kelly Nascimento and her sister Flavia Arantes do Nascimento took to their social media channels on Friday night to show Kelly in one hand as Pele lay in her hospital bed and Flavia slept on the couch. I posted an undated photo that seems to be
“We will stay here with faith in this fight. One more night together,” wrote Kelly Nascimento.
The hospital did not mention Pele’s signs of a recent respiratory infection, exacerbated by COVID-19.
Folha de S.Paulo newspaper reported last weekend that doctors had decided to put him in palliative care after Pele’s chemotherapy had failed. Pele’s family denied the report.
Pele led Brazil to World Cup victories in 1958, 1962 and 1970, scoring 77 goals and remaining one of the team’s all-time top scorers. Neymar equaled Pele’s record at the recent World Cup.
