Phillies release SS Gregorius, launch SS Segura from IL


PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Phillies released veteran shortstop Didi Gregorius on Thursday as part of a series of moves ahead of their four-game series opener against Washington.

Philadelphia also activated infielder Jean Segura from the 60-day injured list and right-hander Kyle Gibson from the bereavement list.

right handed Noah Syndergaard Center fielder Brandon Marsh reported to the team Tuesday after being acquired in two trades.

The 32-year-old Gregorius has a .210 batting average, home runs and 19 RBIs in 63 games this season. 284 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs in his first season with the Phillies.

Gregorius made it to the majors in Cincinnati in 2012 and also played for the Arizona and New York Yankees before moving to Philadelphia. 257 batting average, 134 homers and 530 RBI in 11 years in the majors.

Segura, 32, was out with a broken right index finger. The two-time All-Star is a Triple-A Lehigh.He went 30-6 with 6 walks in 8 rehab games with the Valley.

Syndergaard is scheduled to face the bottom-placed Nationals on Thursday night. The Phillies sent outfielders Mickey Moniak and Jadiel Sanchez to the Angels, and Syndergaard appeared in 15 games this year with a 5-8 record and a 3.83 ERA.

Marsh, 24, also came from the Angels in a separate trade for promising Logan Ohoppe. 226 with 8 home runs and 37 RBIs in 93 games in Los Angeles this year.
