Police Chief casts support behind Biden’s choice of civil rights

Breona Taylor died over a year ago.But US police haven’t changed much

Thousands of protesters were arrested last year. Almost a year has passed since George Floyd, a former rapper and five fathers, was killed by officer Derek Chauvin in the daytime. And about 300 days have passed since the subsequent uprising of their name. Thousands of protesters have been arrested and the majority have withdrawn their flimsy charges, but many still face more severe punishment than the police officers who killed Taylor. The bill was passed in the name of the murderer, and the efforts of local organizations have led a few cities to modestly cut police budgets. At the same time, many local governments have doubled their support for violent police, and systems that required a movement to defend the police remain almost completely intact and murderous. At least 132 people have already been killed by police officers this year. Among them is Kurt Reinhold, a 42-year-old black man who was killed after being stopped for J-Walking. This is a crime that is used almost exclusively to target blacks and other people of color. .. A total of 1,004 people were shot dead by police last year, the majority of whom were white, but blacks were still killed disproportionately to the total population. Some of these murders may seem “justified,” but remember that the United States is killing far more people than any other country with similar political and economic positions. It is important to keep it. For example, according to a 2015 Guardian report by Jamiles Lartey, police killed 59 people in the United States during the first 24 days of 2015, compared to 55 people killed in the last 24 years in England and Wales combined. In Stockton, California, there were three police shootings in the first five months of 2015, but in Iceland, which has about the same population, there was only one killing by police officers. The riots were assembled by police stations as riots and looting, but reports after the report revealed that police across the country mishandled what was an overwhelmingly peaceful protest. If anything, much of this summer’s violence is believed to have been caused by aggressive law enforcement agencies that emerged with tanks, tear gas, and tactical shields. Within the first two and a half weeks of the first uprising, 14,000 protesters were arrested, and in the months that followed, police continued to round up leftist organizers who tried to punish them for their summer activities. Thousands of charges were subsequently dropped and more charges were dropped daily as police and federal agents were found to be more interested in political revenge than evidence. Reporter Andrea Sahori, who reports on Black Lives Matter’s protests in Iowa for the victory of press freedom, has recently been acquitted after being charged with failure to dissolve and interfering with public acts. The accusation of a group of New Jersey youth who faced a felony simply by tweeting or retweeting an image of a police officer was dropped. The trial is not over yet, and police and judges are doing whatever they can to hurt activists. One of the Phoenix protesters was threatened with indefinite detention and was released only after agreeing not to participate in public protests. In Arizona and elsewhere, there is a growing movement to withdraw unjustified claims. Fifteen protesters have already seen their proceedings dismissed after being first charged as a member of the street gang. At the same time, I have not felt much influence or humility on the police and the city government that controls them. No police officer has yet been charged with the murder of Briona Taylor. No police officer was charged with the murder of Daniel Prud, a black man who died after a policeman fixed him on the pavement and put a hood on his head during an episode of mental illness, and no one participated in the apparent cover. -Up the case. Two buffalo police officers, Robert McCabe and Aaron Torgarski, seen in a video pushing a 75-year-old protester to the ground, were dismissed in February this year. Former Philadelphia police officer Joseph Bologna Jr. was fired, but all charges were dropped after beating the student with a camera baton. As of December, five police officers who surrounded and beat 28-year-old home health assistant Rikia Young arrested her and essentially kidnapped her child before the second assault. Have not been arrested or charged with. Waves of uprising in Philadelphia. Deputy sheriff and police officer protesting in Beverly Hills, California, May 30, 2020. Photo: Étienne Laurent / EPA Police-wide violence does not appear to be diminishing. Portland police officers have seen Ketting protesters, enclosing the entire protest, detaining all those in it, and prosecuting some while retaining most records and photographs. Minneapolis is preparing for a war with its inhabitants in preparation for the acquittal of Derek Chauvin, a police officer who killed George Floyd. The state of Kentucky, home of Breona Taylor, is in the process of making it illegal to abuse police officers with a bill that has already passed the state’s Senate. The federal government has made some efforts to reform police, but even with the new potential funding for police, it is far from what many activists have hoped for. The good news was the withdrawal of charges against Briona Taylor’s boyfriend Kenneth Walker and the success of the first proceeding against the city of Philadelphia, which tore the entire black neighborhood. But unfortunately, these are not victories that will radically change law enforcement in a way that can prevent future murders. To do that, we need an organization that can redefine the essence of the United States. And the country may need a very different uprising.
