Officials have detained American Airlines passengers walking on the wings of an airplane landing at Miami International Airport (MIA) with an emergency exit, according to local news reports.
The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) said passengers were walking on the wings of the plane around 7:30 pm Wednesday evening while the aircraft was in a taxi. CBS4 Miami report. The plane arrived from Cali, Colombia, police said.
Police said passengers were arrested by jumping off their wings when police arrived. Reported WPLG Local 10 News.. Authorities told the outlet that the incident did not cause a delay and the rest of the passengers were able to get off the plane.
According to CBS 4 Miami, the suspect’s name has not been disclosed.
In a statement, American Airlines confirmed that passengers on Flight 920, serviced from Cali, left the plane via an emergency exit.
“Customers were immediately detained by law enforcement agencies. We appreciate the professionalism and swift action of our team members and law enforcement agencies,” said the airline.
Miami’s U.S. Customs and Border Protection has told insiders that it was not involved in the arrest.
Miami-Dade Police and Miami International Airport did not immediately respond to insider’s request for comment on the story.
