of Press conferencethe Putnam County Sheriff’s Office announced that 61-year-old Pamela Jane Locke died in hospital on Monday.
Putnam County Sheriff’s spokesman Joseph Wells said at a press conference, “One of the neighbors brought a firearm and fired several shots into the air in an attempt to disrupt the attack. ‘It failed.'”
Rock was attacked near Palatka, a small Florida city 45 miles from Jacksonville.
When police arrived at the scene on Sunday, they found the dog behind a fence and the lock bleeding. Locke went into cardiac arrest while driving to. She died the next day.
Under local law, owners can be held liable if they know their dog is dangerous but fail to take due care, Wells said. However, the dog was behind a fence and escaped, and the owner had cooperated with earlier calls for animal control.
