Botswana says another 15 cases of Omicron mutants detected in the country
Botswana’s health minister, Edwin Dikoloti, said on Sunday that the country had detected an additional 15 cases of the Omicron coronavirus variant, in addition to the four confirmed cases declared on Friday. The minister praised scientists for the early discovery of a new variant of the country, but emphasized that it did not appear in Botswana because four cases were found in people who traveled to the country on a diplomatic mission. Botswana is among the 11 countries reporting cases of this variant so far, identified last week by the National Institute of Infectious Diseases in South Africa and later designated as a “concern” by the World Health Organization. It was an early stage.
