QUEBEC — Quebec’s election campaign is set to officially begin today, giving party leaders about five weeks to win over voters ahead of the October 3 vote.
Outgoing Prime Minister Francois Legault announced last week that the campaign would finally begin “in earnest” after weeks of informal campaigns by political parties and billions of dollars already pledged to voters.
The official first day of the campaign begins today, but in recent weeks all major party leaders have nominated candidates and made campaign promises.
When Parliament was dissolved for the summer, Legault’s party won 76 seats, the Liberal Party of Quebec 27, the Solidarity Party of Quebec 10, and the Party of Quebec 7. Quebec’s Conservatives had one seat and independents four.
