Quebec police guard dog released after the suspect was arrested and opened the probe before stabbing

Quebec police guard dogs are investigating a suspect who stabbed his spouse on Thursday after being arrested and released by Quebec city police hours ago.

The Bureau de senquĂȘtes indĂ©pendantes said in a statement that police arrested a 51-year-old man on the scene at 8:59 pm on charges of assault, breaks and probation violations in response to a call for a marital dispute.

It says the defendant was released on promise to appear in court at a later date and under an order prohibiting him from speaking to the suspect.

Police were called to the same residence on Thursday at 11:03 pm. A 46-year-old woman was stabbed and was the same victim on the last phone call.

Police have arrested the same 51-year-old man, who will appear in court on suspicion of attempted murder, they say.

According to officials, the woman was taken to the hospital, but her life was not at stake.

Watchdog states that seven investigators have been assigned to the investigation with the support of Quebec police.
