Caltrans and construction workers blew off a huge rock that fell on Highway 50 near the Echo Summit on Thursday night, but the cleanup further moved debris off the road on Friday as the El Dorado County pass moved off the road. It will be closed for a few hours.
According to Caltrans District 3, the slide was reported at 5:40 pm, and the fallen rock was “semi-sized,” according to CHP personnel dispatched to the scene. A photo posted by the transport agency shows a series of rocks with snow spots (about 15 feet x 40 feet in diameter) covering the entire westbound lane and half of the eastbound side of the path a few miles away from Sierra At. It shows that it occupies. Taho Ski Resort.
Construction and road crews worked to pierce the rocks overnight before blasting the rocks into manageable debris after 10 am.
Drivers driving on Highway 50 from the Nevada border to Davis have been warned of a blockage.
Westbound traffic is improving at the Myers Roundabout near South Lake Tahoe, and eastbound traffic is closed at Sly Park.
According to CHP and Caltrans, drivers can use highways 49, 88, 89 as nearby alternative roads or travel to Sierra via interstate 80.
