Russia summons head of US media outlet and warns of “strict measures”

The Russian Foreign Ministry said it is convening US media leaders in Moscow next Monday to inform them of strict measures to comply with US regulations on Russian media.

“If the work of the Russian media (operators and journalists) is not normalized in the United States, the toughest steps will inevitably continue,” said Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the ministry, on Friday.

“For this purpose, on Monday, June 6, the heads of the Moscow offices of all American media were invited to the press center of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to explain the consequences of the government’s hostile line in the media field. I will. “She added. “We are looking forward to it.”

Russia has accused Western countries of imposing unreasonable restrictions on foreign media, including a ban on some state-sponsored media outlets. Lawmakers passed a bill last month empowering prosecutors to close Moscow’s foreign media bureau if Western nations were “unfriendly” to the Russian media.

Washington has imposed sanctions on several state-owned Russian television stations. It says it spread disinformation to intensify Russia’s war in Ukraine.

A spokesman for the State Ministry was asked about the summoning of US media in Moscow and said the US favored Russian media and Internet access to censored by its own government.
