Russian soldier wounded in Ukraine says army rescued officer but broke promise to come back for him

A wounded Russian soldier found by Ukrainian forces in Kherson said his troops told him they would come back for him if they rescued his commander, but they never did.

Ukrainian reconnaissance units recorded the moment they spotted the soldier, shared with CNN.

In the video, Ukrainian troops entered the Russian command center outside Kherson and found a soldier with a wounded leg, CNN reports.

A Ukrainian soldier then tended his wounds, and the man described how his fellow troops had left him, according to CNN’s video synopsis.

“We were trapped here and we all fled,” he said, according to CNN.

“I collapsed and lay there until evening. They came and took my captain and that’s it. I said they would come back for me, but who didn’t come.”

It is not clear exactly when the exchange took place.Russian soldiers began leaving major cities in early November, Picked up on November 11th.

The city was the largest Russian invasion to occupy, and Putin declared Kherson officially part of Russia alongside other occupied territories of Ukraine. Its loss was therefore a particular humiliation for Putin and the Russian army.

Ukrainian troops said a Russian soldier was transported to safety and treated, CNN reported.
