At least eight people were stabbed Thursday by a suspect with a large kitchen knife on the Las Vegas Strip, two of whom died, according to witnesses and Nevada state officials.
The attack occurred near the Wynn Hotel and Casino around 11:45 a.m., according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Three of his injured were in critical condition and were taken to a local hospital.
The suspect was taken into custody in front of The Venetian, a resort less than a mile from Wynn. Police said the man had a fair amount of blood “on his sleeve” but was not immediately identified by authorities. KTNVA motive was not immediately shared.
According to two witnesses, some of the victims were Las Vegas “showgirls,” performers known to take pictures with tourists along the Strip. who did you talk to KTNV reporter.
A woman who claimed to employ at least four of the injured showgirls said a suspect armed with a knife approached them before the attack began, claiming to be a chef. He attacked the group after a showgirl refused to take a picture with him.
A large knife was recovered from the scene, police said.
Traffic along Las Vegas Boulevard was closed Thursday afternoon as an investigation was conducted.
