Tokyo, Japan-Simone Biles does not defend the Olympic gold medal in floor exercises.

USA Gymnastics announced on Sunday that six Olympic medalists have won gold medals in Rio de Janeiro and have chosen not to compete on the floor that finished second in qualifying last week.

Britain’s Jennifer Gadirova will replace bile in the finals scheduled for Monday.

US gymnastics said Biles had not decided whether to participate in the balance beam final scheduled for Tuesday. She won a bronze medal at an event in Brazil five years ago.

Biles has already chosen not to compete in the uneven bars and vault finals on Sunday night at the Ariake Gymnastics Center. She wasn’t expected to win a medal at the bar, but she is the Olympic champion of the vault.

Biles deals with mental blocks called “twisty” in gymnastics. In other words, Biles has a hard time understanding where her body is in relation to the ground when in the air.

In his elite career, Biles dominated floor exercises, winning five world championships with a victory in Rio. Her innovative tumbling has redefined what is possible on the podium. She has two tumbling pass dismounts named after her with a sports point code.
