Six people taken to hospital, one with life-threatening injuries after drive-by shooting at Ajax

An early morning drive-by shooting in Ajax, Ontario, took six people to hospitals in the Greater Toronto Area, including one with life-threatening injuries.

According to Durham County Police, the shooting took place at 1:30 am today behind a restaurant at 154 Harwood Avenue, during a barbecue event advertised online.

The victims are three adult males and three adult females, one of whom is in serious condition and undergoing surgery, and the remaining five have serious injuries that are not life-threatening.

Police have not released the details of the suspect, who fled in a dark four-door vehicle.

Officers at the scene were unable to provide information about whether the suspect and victim knew each other because the investigation is in its early stages.

The police forensic identification unit is currently processing the scene.

Officers said “many people” were at the barbecue and urged attendees to provide information to help the investigation.
