Toronto — A newly elected parliamentarian for horseback riding in downtown Toronto says he sits independently.

Kevin Von has stated that he will not resign on behalf of Spadina Fort York at the House of Commons, despite the controversy over his election.

He announced in a tweet on Saturday night.

The Liberal Party dropped Vuong as a candidate just two days before Monday’s elections.

The Federalist Party made a decision after the Toronto Star reported that he had been accused of sexually assaulting him in 2019, but was later withdrawn.

Thousands of people have already voted by mail or pre-voting, and it was too late to remove Vuong’s name or party affiliation from the ballots cast on Monday.

He managed to win about 39 percent of the votes.

“I would like to apologize for the lack of disclosure after taking the time to look back on recent events,” Von issued a brief statement on Twitter on Saturday night.
