Turkey sentenced wife of Kurdish politician imprisoned for medical report
The wife of Serahattin Demirtus, a prominent Kurdish opposition, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison in Turkey after a medical report revealed that she provided inaccurate information over dates. Her lawyer said. Basak Demirtus, a 44-year-old lawyer, said in a 2015 medical report issued by a doctor in southeastern Dyalbakur from the court on the wrong date that she gave it to her employer while she was on sick leave. He said he had been sentenced. Her husband, Serahattin Demirtus, a former Kurdish leader and one of Turkey’s most famous politicians, has been imprisoned for nearly five years for terrorism-related charges he denied.
