The Hague, The Netherlands — The body shed in the northern part of the Netherlands was identified as the body of an 81-year-old German who disappeared from a cruise ship earlier this month, Dutch police said Thursday.
The body was found on Tuesday morning at the beach in Terschelling, one of a series of islands in the shallow Wadden Sea off the northern coast of the Netherlands.
“The investigation revealed that it was an 81-year-old man from Germany who went missing from the cruise ship on August 16,” Friesland police said in a tweet. “There are no signs of crime. The police investigation is over.”
A Dutch rescue boat, supported by two helicopters and an airplane, searched for passengers for hours after disappearing, but eventually gave up without finding any trace of him.
The man’s identity was not revealed, and neither police nor the Coast Guard identified the ship he was missing, but German media named him 81-year-old Hamburg billionaire Kaiwenche.
The German tabloid Bild reported on August 16 that her husband had reported that Wuensche had disappeared from the cruise ship MS Europa.
Wuensche made his fortune in the fashion and real estate business.
