Submarine commander Heli Octavian is one of the people gathered around the sailors playing acoustic guitar.
“I’m not ready to live without you, even if I’m not ready to miss you,” the sailors sing. “I wish you all the best of luck.”
The video was recorded as a farewell to the retired commander of the Navy’s submarine fleet, whose successor took office in early March, Indonesian spokesman Djawara Whimbo told AFP.
A German-made submarine (one of the five Indonesian fleets) disappeared early Wednesday as it was scheduled to practice torpedo training off the coast of Bali.
Indonesian troops announced on Sunday that they had found the ship in pieces about 2,600 feet below the surface of the sea.
“We received an underwater photograph that was identified as part of the submarine, including the submarine’s rear vertical rudder, anchors, external pressure bodies, embossed dibladers, and other ship components,” military chief Hadi Jayant said on Sunday in Bali. I told reporters.
“This genuine evidence allows us to declare that KRI Nanggala 402 has sunk and the entire crew has died,” said Tjahjanto.
