The White House Announces Second COVID-19 Booster for Older Americans: Report

The Biden administration plans to give older Americans a second COVID-19 booster shot by people familiar with the plan. Told the New York Times..

People over the age of 50 can get a second booster of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine.

However, multiple issues have complicated the plan, sources told the Times, as the government has to calculate when the next COVID-19 wave could hit the United States. THis administration will want to give the elderly a second booster before the next wave hits, but not too far before its protection weakens.

Other annoying issues include how to explain the plan to the public and how strong the protection of the second booster remains.

White House Advisor Anthony Fauci Last week, he said cases of COVID-19 could start to increase in the coming weeks.

“It’s likely that the decline will level off or even increase in the coming weeks, but it’s not surprising,” Fauci said in the ABC News podcast “Start Here.”

However, it is unclear how dangerous this wave is compared to past increases, as the BA.2 variant is beginning to become the dominant strand in the United States.

Hill contacted the White House for comment.
