The Iranian government will face “serious consequences” if it attacks Americans, Top White House adviser said on Sunday.
White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan issued a warning in a statement from the White House on Sunday after Iran issued sanctions against Americans on Saturday.
“Yesterday, Iran claimed to impose sanctions on 52 Americans. Iran’s surrogate militia continued to attack US troops in the Middle East, and Iranian authorities terrorized in the United States and elsewhere around the world. They are doing so because they are threatening to carry out the operation, “Sullivan said.
According to Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, more than 50 Americans were sanctioned by Iran for the killing of Solei Mani, who was in charge of the shadow Quds Force in early 2020. They include General Mark Milley, the current chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Robert O’Brien, then Trump’s National Security Adviser.
“Don’t make mistakes. The United States protects and defends its citizens, including those who are currently serving the United States and those who have previously served,” Sullivan said recently in Iran. Described his actions as “threat and provocation.”
Meanwhile, a few days ago, Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi said former President Donald Trump should be tried over Soleimani’s death.
At the time, Trump administration officials said Solei Mani needed to be taken out after a series of attacks on US assets in the Middle East and the attacks that have killed hundreds of Americans in recent years. They also said Soleimani was plotting an imminent attack.
“We disagree on Iran’s policies,” Sullivan added to Iran’s recent statement on Trump administration officials on Sunday. “But we are united in our determination to threat and provocation. We are united to protect people.”
He added: “We will work with allies and partners to thwart and respond to attacks by Iran. If Iran attacks any of our people, including one of the 52 people nominated yesterday, it will be serious. You will face the consequences. “
Just days after Soleimani’s death, Iranian troops shot down Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 on departure from Tehran Airport, killing 176 people. It happened when Iran fired a barrage of missiles at a US military base in Iraq.
The Iranian government initially denied shooting down the plane, but admitted that the military actually fired the missile on the plane after being mistaken for a cruise missile.
About a year ago, Iran also imposed sanctions on Trump and several US officials.
