New data released Wednesday provide the clearest snapshot of the number of Canadians who have accessed the COVID-19 support program, which was rushed by the government at the beginning of the pandemic.

Statistics Canada has released this information as part of the development of findings from the May 2021 census.

More than 20.7 million people received at least some financial support from the government, including 16.9 million who received supplements from existing programs.

In total, authorities reported that 8.4 million people received benefits specifically designed to address COVID-19.

Within that category, the breakdown of who got what is as follows:

Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB)

Target audience: Workers who have stopped working or have reduced working hours due to COVID-19 and earned at least $ 5,000 in 2019.

What they got: $ 2,000 every 4 weeks, up to 16 weeks.

Available period: From March 15th to September 26th, 2020

Number of recipients: 7,621,950

Canada Recovery Benefits (CRB)

Target audience: Workers who were unable to work for two weeks due to COVID-19, or whose income was reduced by 50% and were not eligible for employment insurance benefits.

What they got: $ 1,000 or $ 600 in 2 weeks, depending on when they applied.

Available period: September 27, 2020 to October 23, 2021

Number of people who received the census before it was done: 1,150,575

Canada Recovery Disease Benefits (CRSB)

Target audience: Employers or self-employed persons who are ill due to COVID-19, need to be quarantined, or are in underlying health at high risk of catching it.

What they got: up to $ 500 per week for up to 6 weeks.

Available period: September 27, 2020 to May 7, 2022

Number of people who received the census before it was done: 231,456

Canada Recovery Long-Term Care Benefits (CRCB)

Audience: At risk of serious health problems due to school, program, facility closure, or illness, independence, or COVID-19.

What they got: up to 44 weeks, $ 500 per week.

Available period: September 27, 2020 to May 7, 2022

Number of people who received the census before it was done: 197,335

Canada Emergency Student Allowance (CESB)

Target audience: Due to COVID-19, post-high school students and recent post-high school or high school graduates will not be able to find a job.

What they got: $ 1,250 every 4 weeks, up to $ 16 weeks, and $ 750 every 4 weeks if you have a disability or dependents.

Available period: May 10th to August 29th, 2020
