Toddler dies in skegness caravan fire

A 2-year-old girl died in a fire at a caravan site.

Lincolnshire police said they were asked to report a fire at Sealands Caravan Park in Ingoldmells near Skegness around 10:30 pm on Monday.

The unit said the woman and her three children were able to escape the caravan safely, but her fourth child, an infant, died.

The fleeing mother and her three children were treated in a hospital and later released.

According to police, about 50 people were asked to leave the caravan in the immediate vicinity of the flames and were able to go to the emergency shelter created on the Labor Leisure site.

Detective Joe Fortune, a senior investigator, said:

“We are in the very early stages of our investigation and the circumstances that led to the fire are not yet clear.

“We work closely with a team of experts to understand what happened.”

She added:

“This is especially disastrous, as families have lost their children, so people remember those victims and ask not to share the footage online.”

Police said the investigative team would be on the scene all day to carry out the initial stages of the investigation.

They urged witnesses to come forward.
