On April 3, 2018, police officer Benderby in Huntsville, Alabama responded to a call for suicide by a man with a gun. When he arrived, he assessed that the two police officers who were already there were in danger-not following the protocol and training: Geoffrey Parker, the man who called 911, was in his living room. He was and pointed his gun at his head-he could have turned on a defenseless officer instantly. Officer Derby pointed his shotgun at Parker and repeatedly ordered him to drop his gun. Parker didn’t, and when he made a slight move, Officer Derby fired once and killed him.
Bendaby is currently sentenced to 25 years in prison for murder. But there’s more to the story, and that’s why they’re suing a new trial. His wife, Sergeant Keelin Derby, first told the national media about Ben.
