The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Saturday that it would expel illegal immigrants from the bridge area of Texas.
The DHS made its announcement after various reports stated that thousands of illegal immigrants were gathering under the International Bridge in Del Rio, Texas.
Barberde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez said Thursday that there were about 9,000 illegal immigrants in the area, including Haitians, Cubans and Venezuelans. However, that number has increased to 14,000, border guard sources told The Epoch Times.
The Immigration Bureau temporarily closed Del Rio’s port of entry and rerouted traffic to the Eagle Pass, about 60 miles from Del Rio.

The number of illegal immigrants gathered in the area of the bridge surged in less than a week from just a few hundred under the bridge on September 9.
Del Rio Mayor Bruno Rosano said earlier this week that another 20,000 people are on their way.
“I’m deeply frustrated. I’m worried about Stampede. I’m worried about terrorism,” Rosano said.
“It’s not safe. It’s undefendable,” he said, looking at the wide open borders and the number of people crossing them.
“We really don’t know who they are.”
Texas Governor Greg Abbott said he had instructed the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas National Guard to “maintain their presence in and around the port of entry to prevent intersections.”
