At least 68 people were reportedly killed after a plane crashed near an airport in central Nepal.
A video was posted on social media showing a Yeti Air plane taking off from Kathmandu, Nepal, crashing on landing, and the plane making a sharp turn just before hitting the ground. A loud explosion is heard as it disappears from sight.
There were 72 people on board the flight, including 68 passengers. 68 bodies have been recovered so far.
“We have sent 31 bodies to the hospital and are removing 33 from the gorge,” police official Ajay KC told Reuters.
The wreckage of the plane lies between two hills near Pokhara airport and is difficult for rescue teams to reach. Reuters reports.
Local resident Arun Tam told a news site that half of the aircraft was on a hillside and the rest fell into a river gorge.
At least 309 people have been killed by plane or helicopter since 2000. Crash in Himalayan mountainous country, reported by Reuters. The European Union banned Nepalese airlines from entering its airspace in 2013 due to safety concerns.
