Newly released video shows the moment Bayshore mall parking lot partially collapsed After the plow crew piled up over 100 tons of heavy snow on one area of the garage roof, the roof collapsed to the ground below.
The incident occurred around noon on Thursday and sparked a massive response by firefighters and medical personnel after it was initially unclear if anyone was injured in the incident.
Fire officials said they were “very confident” that no one was under the rubble after reviewing tons of surveillance footage at the mall. Two students from Whitefish Bay High School were about to drive directly into the garage. In the video, the SUV is seen entering the garage just before it collapses.
At least two cars were damaged and 56 cars were trapped inside the structure as the only ramp collapsed. When a snowplow driver concentrates all the snow in one spot, snow collapses occur across the United States.
Winter Service LLC, based in West Allis, will take over Plow Service at Bayshore Mall in 2021.
The Milwaukee area recently experienced a unique snowfall that resulted in a “total liquid equivalent” from the storm of 0.9 to 1.2 inches, the National Weather Service said. One fluid inch is usually equivalent to 10 inches of snow, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
