World record fish that may have been caught in southeastern Georgia

When Lester Roberts set foot on the Satilla River near Folkestone, he probably didn’t expect to leave with record catches.

The Red Breast Sunfish weighed 1 pound, 12 ounces.According to, the length was 113/8 inch Georgia Natural Resources Department..

Roberts caught a fish on May 7th. Red-breasted sunfish is common throughout Georgia. They have orange-red or crimson red bellies, and the gills flaps are black in color. Most are less than £ 1 according to DNR.

Previous Georgian records from 1998 lasted nearly 25 years.
